Hi. My name is Peter Vogl. This is another lesson for track number 4 on the “Let’s Jam” CD. This time, lets use the A natural minor scale. It’s going to give us several more notes to play with and it will allow us to tell the story of the cords using the typical notes at typical times.
Let me suggest that you go ahead and print out the scales and the licks from the website so you can look at them while you’re watching this video. Let’s go ahead and get started with A natural minor scale. Now, here’s lick number 1. Here’s lick number 2. Here’s lick number 3. Notice the use of this note B, it sounds very nice. It is minor setting. Here’s lick number 4. This is where we’ll concentrate on playing the story of the cord by playing the note F over the D minor 7th cord. Lick number 5 will use the same note F over the D minor 7th cord. The reason it sounds good is all the other cords in this tune do not contain that note F. So we take that particular note over that cord. Well, that’s the end of this lesson for track number 4 on the “Let’s Jam” CD.
If you had any trouble with these licks perhaps try the introduction to blues video by the Satin Video Learning. Aah, once again keep playing and my name is Peter Vogl. See you later.
In case you didn’t see the video in part 1 of this series… here it is again.
