Hello! My name is Aaron Moon and I am with you here today on behalf of expertvillage.com and I am discussing the steel string acoustic guitar.

Um… I would like to go over uh… the difference between finger picking and flat picking. So first we will start with the finger picking. Um… it is a technique used to play the guitar that is exactly what the uh… name says. It is using your fingers to pick the strings. Now to start off, usually your thumb will be playing the lower strings; that’s just how it lays naturally and the other fingers will be picking the… the higher strings.

If guitars were never invented, then the whole spectrum of popular music, as we know it today, just wouldn’t exist. This film highlights a range of acoustic guitars and their makers.

This 1938 Jumbo by Oahu started life as a Hawaiian model. But the neck was later re profiled, and now it plays superbly as a normal acoustic. Beautiful golden details on the front, and in superb condition. It was listed in the 1938 Oahu catalogue at 98 dollars, a princely sum in those days.

Ok now we’re going to move on to G chord. First you’re gonna start off with the root G with your middle finger.

Then you’re gonna place your index finger on the B on the 2nd fret of the A string. Then you’re gonna take the 2 next strings and play them open. Next you’re gonna take your ring finger and place it on the 3rd fret of the B string which will produce a fifth D. Right below that will be your octave G and you will play that with your pinky. So in the end your chord sounds just like this. Now another trick with the G chord, if you can’t get it like that, it’ll be easier to play it like this. I like to play it like this.
