Hi, my name is Dalton and we’re going to be going over some technique with your hands. We got uh… picking, we got uh… just regular old finger… finger playing, and popping and slapping.

We’re going to be using this riff. On that one I did finger picking, and uh… it has a smooth sound to it. All the notes kind of blend together and it doesn’t sound too harsh and doesn’t sound too like… put together too well. It has a quality to it that certain bass players want in say a jazzy song or a slow poppy song. It doesn’t have… it’s not too… it’s not in-your-face.

Ok now we are going to take a look at the names of the notes in first position. Now what I mean by first position is any four-fret area that you can play with your four fingers.

It basically means one finger per fret. So that means from all this position you can play without shifting. So we’ll, take a look at these notes starting with an open string. The big string the one that is closest to you is called the E string. So that’s an E.
