I’m Joe Satriani, and I’m going to show you ten tips to make you a successful hard guitar player. And uh… the first one is uh… it’s all about bending. Bending and tuning. This is a really simple one.
Hit a note, say this one here. Drop down a little bit, try to get it in too. Hear the mechanics of it. When you play that first note, make sure you are not pushing it down too hard, and make sure that you’re not pushing it side to side or anything like that. Drop down, grab the neck, make sure that the neck is sort of uh… filling up this space right here, your fulcrum point for rotating your forearm is going to be right there, and you put the three fingers down on that string, two frets below the note you hit at the beginning, and bend it up. Try it out with other strings. Yeah. Practice it down here, all the way up, so y know exactly what it’s supposed to feel like, or what it’s supposed to sound like so you can bend to it.
