The position of the left hand for the rock guitar is different than that of the classical guitars. A classical guitar has the thumb behind the neck and the fingers are set like this. Rock guitarists very often bring their thumb over the neck and the fingers are placed like this.

That means it is a complete different playing technique then this classical technique, rock star technique. When uses once hand, so that only this part touches the under side of the neck. This position is a necessity for good string banding and control rock style by brado. The grip position by the finger is not exactly between two frets. its more in the direction of the pick ups. so you move your left hand not really on the fret. because this kind of mutes the string. it sounds good just behind the fret, pressing in the middle takes too much energy. so you shift the finger little bit up the neck.

Strings don’t have to be pressed hard when you are at the right position by pressing too hard the string goes out of tune in other words press only as hard as necessary. Extremely important is the synchronization of the left and the right hands.
